Invest In Botox Treatments & Fight Signs of Aging

As we age, our skin begins to lose elasticity, firmness, and plumpness due to chemical and hormonal changes, exposure to toxins and pollutants, and decreased collagen production. Botox injections can help you fight the signs of aging by reducing or eliminating fine lines and deep wrinkles on your face and neck. We offer Botox treatments at Kintsu MedSpa & Wellness in Berkeley and Davis, CA. Botox treatment is minimally invasive, low-risk, and offers lasting results with minimal downtime. Believe it or not, it was invented a long time ago and, like so many of these inventions, it was not originally designed for the pursuit of aesthetic perfection.

What Is Botox Treatment?

Botox is an FDA-approved substance injected into strategic treatment areas in the face or neck to temporarily reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox contains traces of a neurotoxin called Botulinum toxin. This toxin affects your nerves and muscles and temporarily paralyzes or restricts the movement of muscles responsible for wrinkles. Our aesthetic nurses will inject small amounts of Botox into targeted muscles to stop them from causing the movement that forms wrinkles. Botox can also treat migraines, excessive sweating, and other health conditions.

What is a Botox Treatment?

A Botox treatment is an injection of Botox into a targeted treatment area to address concerns related to the appearance or texture of the skin. The ingredients in Botox can block the signals between your nerves and muscles so that the muscles that have been injected will not move or tense up. The results can last several months, treat existing fine lines and deep wrinkles, and prevent new ones from forming. We can use Botox injections to treat signs of aging in your eyebrows, forehead, nose, eyes, lips, chin, jawline, neck, and chest. We can also use Botox injections to treat excessive sweating, muscle twitches, migraines, and spasticity.

Who Should Consider Botox Treatments?

You should consider Botox if you are interested in a cosmetic procedure that is safe, minimally invasive, and with a low risk of complications or negative side effects. Botox is a safer alternative to cosmetic surgery or more invasive procedures that require general anesthesia, incisions, stitches, and lengthy recovery times. If your self-esteem or confidence has been affected by concerns about the appearance of your skin, signs of aging, or fine lines and wrinkles, Botox can help you regain your confidence and feel good about your appearance again.

Who Shouldn’t Get Botox Treatments?

You should not get Botox treatment if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or if you have weakened facial muscles, drooping eyelids, or a neuromuscular disease. Our team can recommend safe, alternative cosmetic treatments like dermal fillers for fine lines, wrinkles, and other skin care and aging concerns.

How to Prepare for Success With Botox Treatments

Botox injections are minimally invasive, and most people do not experience any pain or discomfort. The procedure is safe when administered by a licensed healthcare professional like our aesthetic nurses. Botox injections are an outpatient procedure, and you can return to your regular routine immediately after your injection. To prepare for a Botox injection, we recommend that you:

  • Avoid drinking alcohol at least one week before your appointment.
  • Drink at least 91 ounces of water per day.
  • Avoid taking any anti-inflammatory medication the week before Botox.
  • Avoid eating foods that contain garlic.
  • Review your list of medications with us so that we can tell you what you can and can’t take before your treatment.
  • Don’t use any chemical peels, facials, or harsh treatments on your skin for at least five days leading up to your treatment.
  • Ensure your face is clean and free of makeup, serums, lotions, perfumes, moisturizers, gels, and other products when you come in for your treatment.
  • Ask any questions you have before the treatment begins.

What to Expect During Botox Treatment for Faces

We will clean the treatment area and use ice to numb the area before we begin. Our aesthetic nurse will use a small, thin needle to inject Botox directly into the muscle at the targeted treatment area. You may feel pressure or a slight pinch, but you shouldn’t feel any pain. We may repeat injections in different places depending on the size of the treatment area and the extent of your treatment goals. Afterward, we will cleanse the skin again, and we may apply a soothing gel to the treatment area.

What to Expect After Botox Treatment

Most people notice immediate results after their first Botox treatment. However, it can take three or four days to see results and 10-14 days to see complete results. You should avoid exercise and strenuous activity for at least four hours after your treatment, and you should also avoid direct sunlight and wear sunscreen. You can reduce redness, swelling, and bruising by not putting pressure on the treatment area for the first 12 hours, remaining upright for the first four hours, and avoiding physical exertion for the first 24 hours. The effects of Botox usually wear off in three to six months.

How Often Can You Get Botox?

The effects of Botox can last up to three or four months. Most people undergo treatment before the results of the previous injection have worn off to ensure no lapse in results. We can evaluate your Botox results and recommend the most effective treatment schedule for your needs.

When Should I Be Concerned About Botox Side Effects?

Side effects from Botox are very rare. Most side effects are minimal and will disappear within 24-48 hours. However, certain side effects are more serious and require immediate medical intervention. You should call our office or visit your doctor if you experience:

  • Blurry vision or vision loss
  • Drooping eyelids
  • Blood in your urine
  • Urinary tract infection symptoms
  • Shortness of breath
  • Slurred speech or difficulty talking
  • Paralysis or numbness outside the treatment area
  • Severe stomach issues
  • Difficulty swallowing.
