The first question people inevitably ask when they learn I’m an aesthetic doctor is “Why?” After spending 20 years literally saving lives as an ER physician, it seems counter-intuitive to be devoting my practice to helping people “look better.”
But one thing I’ve learned over the years is that there’s more than one way to save a life and that good habits for health and longevity are inextricably linked to one’s sense of self-worth.
So many of our daily behaviors are connected to our self-esteem, even simple habits such as making our bed or brushing our teeth.
You’ll notice that when someone feels down, they lose interest and sometimes struggle to maintain these habits, but when someone feels content, full with their own sense of self-worth, they indulge in all these daily rituals. When you feel motivated to style your hair and iron your clothes, you’re more likely to spend time preparing and eating healthy veggies. There’s a confidence that comes with knowing that you are creating and presenting your own unique beauty to the world!
True beauty is on the inside
I believe in a profound way, that beauty is truly on the inside, and it should never be dictated by societal norms or trends. At my clinic, Kintsu Spa, this is the philosophy we all believe in. We are committed to facilitating and serving clients in whatever way will help them to pursue their own sense of personal beauty and well-being.
I was very deliberate in the way I created Kintsu, I wanted it to become a kind of Oasis, a place to support and nurture you on your own beauty journey.
Over millennia, we’ve done some scary things in the name of beauty. Cleopatra indulged in lead-laden kohl and the Victorians in rib-crushing corsets. Some might say modern beauty practices are unnatural as well, but ironically, some of today’s advanced technology actually allows us to stimulate, and simulate, the processes that occur naturally in our skin!
Enhancing natural processes
For example, we now have a tool that is far safer than ancient cosmetics. It is so effective that it seems to ameliorate any (perceived) need to resort to surgery—and it simply uses light! This laser sends the electrical equivalent of an espresso shot to the subcutaneous layer of the skin to jolt it awake and say “hey, let’s make more collagen!” It’s like a facelift in a box.
I’m truly excited to share this technology with my clients. It’s called the Fotona 4D, and it really does make the skin tighter and more voluminous. It’s completely non-invasive and requires almost no downtime, so it has quickly become one of the most popular treatments available around the world. The results are aesthetically amazing, and the emotional boost it gives my clients is what makes me so happy to be able to provide this service.
I invite those of you in our local community who are curious to learn more to go to our website or give us a call. We’re excited to share our knowledge and our expertise, and look forward to welcoming you to our spa.
