Feel Free to Embrace Bare Legs and Summer Heat!

Once the fog phenomenon eases up, and reliable sunshine comes to visit, Bay Area residents enjoy an extended summer that’s uncommon in other parts of the country. We still have a couple of months to keep wearing our shorts and expose those bare legs!

I always advocate for body appreciation and gratitude, no matter what, so I admit to feeling bad for my clients who insist on hiding their legs in long pants because of unwanted veins, even on hot summer days.

So let’s talk about those visible veins, and what causes them.

We’re all familiar with this basic biology: Our hearts pump oxygenated blood through our arteries to distant parts of our bodies, then veins carry the blood back to the heart.

As this amazing organ goes about pumping two thousand gallons of blood a day(!), it relies on the use of valves to keep the blood from flowing back in the wrong direction.

But did you know that your veins have valves? These tiny valves prevent blood from flowing back in the wrong direction.

When it comes to sending blood back to the heart, the veins in our legs have the hardest job of any part of the body. From your feet, blood has to move through the pressure of our body weight, against the strong force of gravity, and travel the greatest distance. Over time, these hardworking valves get weaker, and can even get damaged. This causes blood to get backed up and to make the veins bigger. With continued pressure, the vein walls weaken and bulge, and in time, we see small “spider veins” and, when the condition (known as venous insufficiency) is more pronounced, they appear as varicose veins.

As if this wasn’t enough, these veins can be further compromised by age, hormonal changes, weight changes, pregnancy, injuries and sun exposure. A lot of the time, these damaged veins are simply visual, but often there can be real discomfort, and even pain.

The good news is there are solutions! One top notch, painless and effective remedy is the Fotona laser, which uses targeted light pulses to collapse damaged vein walls so the body can reabsorb them. This works on spider veins, small varicose veins, and facial redness too.

How Does It Work?

A specialized laser, known as the Fotona laser, delivers very specific pulses of light to the damaged veins. The subsequent heat from this light causes the vein walls to gently collapse and then get naturally reabsorbed by the body. The damaged veins disappear, while blood flow is rerouted to healthy veins. This procedure can be used to erase both spider veins and small varicose veins, and it can be applied to other parts of the body including the hands and the face.

Sometimes my clients need more than one session, but ultimately these visible veins disappearalong with any associated discomfort. I know that this laser has been a game-changer for a lot of people suffering with this condition, and I’m thrilled to provide this service to women and men of any age.

Some of the amazing advantages of using this laser include:

  • Precision targeting of the damaged veins
  • It is non-invasive, and requires no incisions
  • There is little to no pain
  • No downtime is needed after your treatment
  • It’s safe and effective on all skin types
  • It has long-lasting results

We know that every single body is different, and we’re always honored to respect those differences and treat you according to your specific needs.
